What is Affiliate Marketing? That is a question I have been asking myself for a while now. I see others making money using affiliate marketing strategies. I wanted to know how I could too. Affiliate marketing is choosing companies that you want to work with applying to their affiliate programs and hoping you will get accepted into their program. Since I am a beginner to all of this I thought I’d write a blog post on what I have learned so far to help others like me go in the right direction… or learn from my mistakes. Whichever happens is fine by me. I want to see everyone succeed.

I want to share with you all my journey so far into the Affiliate world. Before I started I tried to get Google Adsense for my blog. Maybe someday they will accept me into their program but as of right now I don’t have enough traffic to my blog. Which is fine because:

1) It inspires me to create more great content.

2) I can help others learn what to do and not to do if they are interested in this path.

I do a lot of research about the programs I want to join. I like to know as much as I can find about each one. I don’t want to waste time on programs that aren’t there for their affiliates. I’m sure none of you do either. And if you are reading this you are likely doing that research for yourself. After being turned down by Google Adsense I turned my sites on affiliate marketing. Who doesn’t want to try to make that passive income? I did a lot of research and I found Magiclinks. I applied and was turned down for their program too. It is discouraging, yes, but I probably wouldn’t be working so hard to make this work if I didn’t truly believe that it will work. It is going to take a lot of time, a lot of patience and a whole lot of hearing no before you get your first yes. I am not giving up on these programs. I will continue to make my site and my Pinterest better and I will reapply at some point.

One big piece of advice I can give you all is even if you have all of the social media platforms only apply with the ones you are actively on. They don’t care if you have 10 or 20. They only care if you are active and are getting traffic.

I wasn’t going to let the no’s get me down so next I did more research and found Shareasale.  You can find them here: Shareasale They have tons of merchants that they work with. I applied with my blog here and with my Pinterest. I believe you can even join them if you don’t have a website. Guess what? I was finally accepted into my first affiliate program! Part of my research includes which companies/merchants the Affiliate Network works with. I hardly found any information about it. So I am going to give you a couple of companies that accepted me and a couple that didn’t. Remember these companies I chose to apply to have products that I personally love. I’m not sure but I think that it is easier to be accepted into some of these companies because networks like Shareasale already do some of the leg work for them so they have confidence that they are choosing good people to work with.

One of the things that I had absolutely no clue about starting this is the Nexus laws. I still don’t understand it completely. I was denied partnerships with a couple of merchants right away because I live in one of those states. I found an article about Nexus Laws and the states that it is in that might help explain it. You can find it here: TaxJar

Some of the companies that I have applied to that denied my application for that reason was: Wayfair, Redbubble and Book Outlet.

I am truly excited to be working with all of these companies. I am not here just to make a buck. I only promote things that I use or would use. I do research on all companies that I apply for and I don’t apply for companies that won’t fit my interests and passions. Here are 10 companies that accepted my application that I am currently working with:

Halloween Wholesalers

TV Store Online

Shop new arrivals from Cricut!

Once Upon a Tee

Up to 30% OFF

Zazzle Inc./ Coveroo

Everything you need to quilt and sew at Craftsy.com

Alien Consulting.com/ OverHalfSale

Affiliate Marketing is a lot of work but it is also a lot of fun. Promoting things that you love has got to be one of the best jobs in the world. Most people already refer their friends and family to products that they find and they love. Affiliate Marketing is doing just that, sharing products with their followers and hoping that they will love the products as much as you do. I hope this post has been helpful. If you have any questions or want to add something I don’t know yet feel free to leave me a comment or contact me.
